A bug remained about accented i. It has been fixed in rev 5633. The attached file is now perfectly imported.

OK, I commented out line 914 of parsetex.cpp

Indeed, it seems that \i does not have any special meaning inside mathematics. One should use \mathi for the dotless mathematical i.

That's true. Anyway, LaTeX warn :
LaTeX Warning: Command \i invalid in math mode on input line 7.

Joris: what is the meaning of « the command \\i in math mode » ?

I tested on a file (with tetex), \i simply produces the same (non-italic) character in math mode as the text mode. And TeXmacs imports it the same way.

Afaik, '\i' is invalid in math mode.

Sorry if this is a stupid question: Is this about the representation of \i in TeXmacs's internal system? Because in LaTeX, '\i ' (or \i{}) both produce the same symbol in both math and text modes. I tried on a test file and TeXmacs (with the suggested patch) appears to import \i and \i{} correctly in either mode.

If it is this character appearing in math mode that you think may cause a problem, at least in Turkish it would never be used as a math symbol.

The LaTeX import of \\i is tricky because we want to import
the Cork character in text mode and the command \\i in math mode.
Any proposal for a fix?

That was fast! Thanks a lot, tested it and everything works as expected.

The given patch fixes the problem.

Anyway :
1) the space protecting should be clever ;
2) we should consider unicode in exporting.

To apply the patch :

  • get the source code (I worked on svn version) ;
  • go into the root directory ;
  • execute the command :

$ patch -p1 < link-to_the_patch.diff

The same issue occurs with \i, \j and \L. Maybe others. The control sequence is not properly exported. This has two conequences :

  • it may leads to TeX files which doesn't compile ;
  • the following spaces are not protected in the TeX export.

See files joint.

Moreover, the LaTeX import of \i is erroneous.

Hi,

TeXmacs is handling the import/export of the lowercase dotless i text character incorrectly.

When exporting, the dotless i should be converted to '\i ' (with a space after), but TeXmacs doesn't put the space, therefore the \i is joined to the following text, giving latex compile errors.

When importing, the import procedure should omit the space following the \i. Currently, the (text-mode) code

k\i sa

displays as "kı sa" after import, whereas it should be "kısa".

To produce this character with the keyboard, switch to the Turkish layout by

setxkbmap -layout tr

and then the English 'lowercase i' key should produce a lowercase dotless i.

Note that this character can not be input via the keyboard in the TeXmacs editor using versions 1.0.7.14 and before. Joris has just fixed this issue with the patch below:
