No further comments, closing as won't fix because we already have an implementation in the works using portaudio.

Work is currently underway on a completely new set of audio I/O functions based on the portaudio library. Is there still a reason to want to potentially use GStreamer as an option/alternative to portaudio?

Is it available for the Macintosh computers? And for the BSDs?

I'd suggest using gstreamer for audio I/O.
Gstreamer (http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/) is platform independent and is already avaiable for linux and windows (http://code.google.com/p/ossbuild/).
