This patch implements the proposal of the comment #2.

the comment #3 is mostly useless, since the considered symbols are printable by the font, but are converted to non-atomic content during the conversion process (except for '*', converted in an entity).

From a TeXmacs point of view, we should reject contents with:

  • delimitors ()[]{}
  • prime and star ('*)

From LaTeX point of view, an acceptable content for \mathrm should be composed of:

  • alphabetical characters
  • numerical characters
  • the set !"#$%&'()*+,-./:;=?@[]_`{}.

We can discriminate it by exclusion on the Cork/Ascii subtable:

  • each char should be between 0x20 (included) and 0x7F (excluded).
  • each char should not own to the following set: <>\^|~

It is due to this code.

in
src/Data/Convert/Texmacs/upgradetm.cpp

if (is_func (t, WITH, 3) &&
is_atomic (t[2]) &&
is_alpha (t[2]->label) &&
is_alpha (t[2]->label) &&
t[0] == "math-font-family")

The test is_alpha ("c1") or is_alpha ("c_1") is false.

If you try to File->Import->LaTeX the file

$\mathrm{c\_1}$
$\mathrm{c1}$

TeXmacs displays this incorrectly. Happens with 1.0.7.{13,14}, and with both the X and Qt versions, Solaris (me) and Linux (Andrey Grozin).

Main effect is on the display in Maxima.

NOTE: I mistakenly entered this as support request #107866 a while ago.
