Less is always present on cygwin as it is a dependency
of some base packages.

If less is not present the message will be:

octave:1> source prova.m
/bin/sh: less: command not found

It is an issue with the installed "less".
Please install also libncursesw10-5.7-18

For cygwin mailing list:

less record on setup.ini is reporting:
"requires: cygwin libncurses10 libgcc1"

but less depends on libncursesw10

I don't know if Cygwin expects you to install a pager separately. Is one installed? I don't know why the Octave package seems to not be using this correctly.

I am CCing this bug report to the Cygwin list.

You are good. I can't see ones(100,1) either. If I set "more off" then all is well, except for lack of paging. Inserting "more off" into my program works too. I am using the build that I downloaded via the Cygwin setup.exe utility. Thanks for your help.

I suspect a problem with the pager. What happens if you do

or

?

Do either of those give you an output?

Also, which 3.4.2 Windows build are you using, where did you acquire it, or did you build it yourself?

If I put the following code in an m-file, start Octave, and run the code:

the matrix v is not displayed. If I try to use disp to view v I see nothing. Typing whos shows the size of v is correct. It seems v has been computed correctly, but I can't see the entire result. I can view parts of v using the colon operator, for example a single row. If I change to an 8 by 3 size for u, then I see the result, i.e. it only seems to fail for larger matrices. Similar behavior occurs after using rand. If I replace the rand line with repmat to create u, then v is viewable.

GNU Octave, version 3.4.2
i686-pc-cygwin
