Well, I'm not compiling octave with clang. That fails for me, too, and I haven't investigated that, yet.

I am compiling a module with clang, though (through mkoctfile).

I've struggled in the past to build Octave with clang and failed. If you have further patches, it would be preferrable if you could submit them as Mercurial patches. There are some instructions here, but let us know if they're not clear:
