And here's a picture showing that the end-of-game pop-up box says that it was post-Crawford play, while the cube is shown to have been in use.

I'm seeing similar behavior. The Crawford rule usually works, but not always. When I've won six games of a seven-game match, the Crawford-game indicator is grey and not checked, and the cube is in play. I looked at my Option settings, and Crawford rule is selected (and worked properly in previous matches). Behold the evidence in the attached screen shot.

I do not use Analyse, but I do click Hint very frequently--any time I'm not sure of my play, I move the checkers but get a critique from Hint before clicking the dice.

I now know how to produce the bug - or not to produce it.

If I play a 5-point match and analyse the game that leads to 4-0 (or 4-1 etc.) immediately after it ends (someone wins, and next thing I do is to click Analyse - Analyse game), there will be no Crawford game. If I skip the analysis, the Crawford game will be played normally. This applies both to me and to gnugb reaching 4 points.

I haven't tested if this applies to matches of different lengtht. Neither can I tell if it does matter if I analyse games before someone reaches 4 points.

I'll try doing the tests while analysing between games. So far, I can't seem to reproduce this but it is likely some settings or usage pattern that is making this happen for you. I'd like to get a copy of your config file. The file is called gnubgautorc. This file is located in your user account main directory under .gnubg (yes there is a period in front). You can attach it to this bug and/or email it to mpetch@capp-sysware.com.

As well, Do you use tutor mode when playing?

Now it actually looks like that there is no way to play the Crawford game for either player. Maybe it has something to do with my habit to analyse each game before starting a new one?

Yes, the "Use Crawford rule" is checked. It works fine when gnubg is 1-away, but not when I'm 1-away from winning the 5-point match.

Is it possible you have Crawford turned off under "Settings" menu / "Options", click the "Cube" tab and look for a checkmark by "Use Crawford Rule". Under normal circumstances the checkmark should be on. Is it?

The Crawford rule does not work when I'm (for the first time in a given 5-point match) 1-away from winning the match.

It works ok when gnubg is 1-away.
