I would also like to add that if you are contributing functions for Octave, it is essential that the code be your own work, or that you have permission to redistribute it. You should never refer to Matlab .m files if Matlab happens to be available to you.

Divya, to be clear: you reported this feature request in Octave core but it should be discussed in Octave-Forge's mailing lists (http://octave.sf.net). Either way, the function should be written, and we would appreciate it very much if you were able to provide an initial implementation.

The function in question is not a part of core Matlab, but part of the Statistics Toolbox. The correct place to add cluster() is in the octave-forge statistics package which already has the linkage() function.

This looks like a problem with an Octave Forge package, not a bug
in Octave. The correct place to report this problem is the
Octave Forge mailing list, octave-dev@lists.sourceforge.net.

A copy of this update to the bug report is being sent to that
list so that they are aware of it. Please follow up there.

Are you able to write an initial implementation yourself? This is more likely to happen soon if you help us do it. :-)

The 'cluster' function that is present in MATLAB is missing in Octave. Please provide this feature. It is required for creating agglomerative clusters. The 'linkage' function is present and after running 'linkage' the 'cluster' function is required to be run in order to get the cluster assignments. Request you to provide the same.

P.S : The corresponding MATLAB help page for cluster command is http://www.mathworks.in/help/toolbox/stats/cluster.html

Thanks,
