Thanks all for helping me to debug my installation.
OK, I confirmed that my Texinfo installation was problematic. Actually, there was no texinfo executable (although TeX Live is installed; I use it regularly.)
Before Rik's comment, I tried to install texinfo and edited the Makefile.in located in the build-aux directory to point to it. Basically, I started debugging any broken paths in that Makefile.
Finally, I got an indication the compilation was complete:
But it crashed with a segfault on the first execution.
THEN, I followed-up on Rik's suggestion (missed that configure option, and I was looking for it [actually a no-TeX-documentation option]) and the same thing happened, basically.
SO, to be clear, I first ran "make clean" and then the following configure line:
The compilation appeared to succeed, then I ran "make check." I've attached the "make check" output.
By the way, I'm certainly a non-expert, and perhaps my original bug report title was inappropriate (it has since changed), but I can't get an executable working: that's my priority, and that's the spirit of my bug report. The current title seems to cast this as a problem making documentation, when even "--disable-docs" is included.
Thanks for your help,
Ryan
