By the way, fvwm-2.5 apparently totally ignores this WM hint. Oh well.

Please read the long story in bug #34716.

In order to be able to emphasize the importance of a message, it may be necessary to force the gxmessage window to be "always in top" (or "above" in some X11 speak).

This depends on the window manager complying to such a request, but should work in most modern WMs. There are lists to be found which show which WMs do this.

There are tools like wmctrl which can modify a window's behavior, but it would be nice to have this as a gxmessage feature.

I am attaching a patch which works nicely for me.
