I believe this bug is resolved in CVS. The code in this area was rewritten due to other issues related to parentheses in filenames.

This bug is really ugly. GNU Make tool becomes useless for Windows 7 64bit, for most use cases.

mingw32-make.exe tool crashes when the env variable PATH contains a path with parenthesis like: "C:\Program Files (x86)".
