Most likely you will have to give the progress indicator a bit more time to draw itself. But as this isn't really a solution I checked the code once more and it turns out that my analysis was wrong. It is the drawing that isn't happening, but the reason is just that the flag isDisplayedWhenStopped isn't set. GNUstep would draw the progress indicator even when not running, but only with that flag set. And here is the actual problem, we are decoding this flag incorrectly. Not the flag itself, but the negation gets stored in the XIB file. I corrected that in the decoding and encoding of the progress indicator.

As a workaround you may just set that flag manually.

workaround doesn't seem to work - just sending

[progressIndicator startAnimation:self];
[progressIndicator stopAnimation:self];

doesn't seem to get 'em drawing

oh ok. i therefore guess sending them start and stop should work around the issue. thanks for the workaround.

not just the border please, the content too. i am setting the value, just never starting the animation since i set the value just once, i use it kinda as a percentage indicator.

The NSprogressIndicators get loaded normally from the XIB file just as they should. The problem seems to be in the drawing code. As long as the progress indicators aren't started they don't get drawn.

Looks like we need another flag here to get the drawing code to just draw the border.

gnustep doesn't load NSProgressIndicators from XIB files

no error, just nothing displayed.

thats weird because i thought gnustep supports NSProgressIndicators as you can create them in GORM.

minimal sample project attached.
