I believe this has been resolved with the version of GNU make currently in CVS. If you test it and find that not to be the case, please add a comment with details and I'll re-open the bug.

I believe this has been fixed in GNU make CVS already. Can you check and see if that works better for you?

We recently noted a severe performance regression with 3.82 when building a huge project. A:
make -f GNUmakefile.mk
on a completely build master took 38 sec with -r with make 3.81 and ~42 sec without -r. On 3.82 the time with -r is comparable, but without it, make hugs one CPU for 80 minutes before going on. We worked around this with:

for now, but an upstream fix would be cool.
