As explained by Ben, the behaviour is correct. I have, however, pushed the following changeset on the stable branch to better explain this behaviour:

Matlab gives the same answers. 72 and 6 - so it looks octave is right. But don't ask me what the 72 elements are. Maybe someone else can shed light on this.

- I don't know which of the two behaviors is wrong, but since they are different, one of them is definitely wrong.
