Now that gnulib is working again, I have built C Zile from the HEAD of master successfully.
Attached is a revised patch that copies the 'make splash screen a buffer' part of your patch 82b7cb1c7eebf59795490aa56d86aba037f5fc75 on master 'Simplify screen drawing and make splash screen a buffer as in Emacs.'.
I haven't applied it, because I'm not convinced this new splash text is as good as the old text, and both that text and even the current splash text are somewhat different from my 2 day build of Emacs 24.0.50.1 from the cz git repo mirror...
Specifically I dislike:
1. The inconsistency in capitalisation between CTRL, ESC and Meta, Alt in the new splash text;
2. The inconsistency in quoting between C-x u near the start and then `C-x u' near the end;
3. With only a single line in the table of commands, the odd looking spacing makes it a little harder to understand which key combination goes with what action in the first line than in the old splash text.
Unless we add support for more of the key combinations shown on the Emacs splash screen, I'd be happy to amend the attached patch to display the following splash text and apply that instead if you agree?
Welcome to GNU Emacs, a part of the GNU operating system.
Undo changes C-x u
Exit Emacs C-x C-c
(`C-' means use the CTRL key. `M-' means use the META (or ALT) key.
If you have no META key, you may instead type ESC followed by the character.)
