This worked for me with the build of Gnash shipped with Debian Lenny. Since upgrading to Squeeze, it hasn't worked, either with the build that's part of squeeze, the couple of builds that have been in squeeze-backports, or the build I made yesterday from a git clone of the repository on April 2nd 2012. The behavior is just as described in the original report.

Walfas Create version: 3.39 (the most recent, released August 20, 2011)

$ gtk-gnash-1 --version
Gnash 0.8.11dev (master-21549-10d0e4e)

Build options
Renderers: agg cairo opengl
Hardware Acceleration: RawFB X11
GUI: GTK
Media handlers: gst ffmpeg
Configured with: --disable-cygnal --disable-docbook --disable-plugins --disable-testsuite --enable-device=rawfb,x11 --enable-fps-debug --enable-gui=fb,dump,gtk,qt4 --enable-media=gst,ffmpeg --enable-renderer=agg,cairo,opengl --program-suffix=-1 --without-gconf
CXXFLAGS: -mcpu=750

It was likely fixed with some recent commit.
Hard to tell which version your friend is really running with that version string. He must have built a snapshot manually, from around a month ago...

Oops, didn't mention he's using Debian wheezy as well. It might be a sid issue so I guess I probably will forward it to Debian folks.

Hmm. I had someone else try it on his machine and it works fine for him. I'll have to see if it's some weird lib issue with my machine. You guys can probably close this report.

His config info:
Gnash 0.8.10dev (0.8.10-20110630-none)
Renderers: agg cairo
Hardware Acceleration:
GUI: GTK
Media handlers: gst ffmpeg

Thank you. I appreciate the quick response. I built master from git sources to see whether it was working.

Build info:
Gnash 0.8.10dev (master-20653-5b4945b)
Gnash is the GNU SWF Player based on GameSWF.
Renderer: AGG
Hardware Acceleration:
GUI: GTK2
Media: Gstreamer 0.10.35

(Mouse was hovering on the bottom; screen didn't capture)

It still appears to behave the same way as it did before. Perhaps it is a downstream issue. Should I also report this to Debian's gnash folks?

Scrolling works for me with Gnash 0.8.10dev (master-20644-2dc21aa)

Using version: Gnash 0.8.10dev (0.8.10-20110701-none) [packaged: Debian unstable/sid]
Renderer: AGG
Hardware Acceleration:
GUI: GTK2
Media: FFmpeg (avcodec version: 52.2.2)

I'm trying to use gnash to open:
http://www.walfas.org/create.swf

For the most part gnash seems to work rather well in rendering this.

There is a usability issue, however. When I try to use the submenus (e.g. click Menu and then Load Presets), the submenu will not scroll up or down properly. When using Shockwave Flash, the menus will scroll up or down automatically if you are at the top or bottom of the menu (respectively) and it doesn't have a scroller bar at all. However, in gnash, the scroller bars appear, the slider cannot be moved, and the hover scrolling doesn't work. The result is I cannot select anything further down in the menus.
