The policy has been changed with this year's release.

At this point, the TrueType fonts contain quadratic (TrueType) outlines, which work best with Windows.

The OpenType fonts contain cubic (PS Type1) outlines, which work well with other systems. They look great in modern versions of Linux, in particular. But Windows has trouble rendering fonts with cubic outlines (I don't know why, I just observe it.)

This is documented in the INSTALL file.

The current README states

OpenType fonts (with suffix .otf) are for use in Windows Vista.
Note that although they can be installed on Linux, but many applications
in Linux still don't support them.

Is this still the case with the latest Linux releases?
Review and document.
