Marking as fixed and closing. The bug reporter will need to upgrade to the latest stable release or build from source in order to see the fix.

Hello,

I am using 3.5.0+ on mingw32 (recent checkout) and I cannot reproduce the errors you describe. I have tried the command sequences you have given in the original report and comment #2.

So this seems to be fixed in the 'tip'.

Okay, waiting on someone to test this on a Windows platform with version 3.4.0 or higher.

This bug will age out in 30 days and be closed unless the issue can be reproduced on the current stable version of Octave.

Sorry, i'm using, on Windows, the"Standalone Port" where the 3.2.4 is the last Version.
And, if I undestand well, it's a problem specific to Windows, to the port to Windows, to the specific port I'm using. Consequently, you have to transfer this problem to people who will make the port of the 3.4.2 by the "Standalone Port"

It doesn't work on 3.2.4. I had already verified that. I need you to check with version 3.4.0 where it appears to be fixed.

i've got the upgrade 3.2.4, and i'm able to generate panic with the sequence (wih twice addpath)

> cd("c:/");
> addpath(pwd)
> addpath(pwd)

panic: impossible state reached in file `D:/build/octave32/3.2.x_gcc-4.4.0/forge/octave/octave-3.2.4/src/load-path.cc'
at line 657

(I repeat: I'm using Octave on Windws7)

I don't get a panic, but I can generate a path with the same directory listed twice even on a Linux system.

However, this bug seems to have been fixed in 3.4.0. Can you upgrade from 3.2.4 to the latest stable release (3.4.0) and try to reproduce this?

Bug report for Octave 3.2.4 configured for i686-pc-mingw32

Description:

-----------

When i would add some paths by addpath, I had one error in the list of path (duplication of the path) or panic abort with the message:

panic: impossible state reached in file `D:/build/octave32/3.2.x_gcc-4.4.0/forge/octave/octave-3.2.4/src/load-path.cc'

at line 657

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

Please contact the application's support team for more information.

panic: Aborted -- stopping myself...

attempting to save variables to `octave-core'...

save to `octave-core' complete

I discover that appears only when one of my addpath(xx) was with xx= the actual pwd. By changing temporarily the pwd, I don' have abort more

Repeat-By:

---------

With this first program,

sep='\'; rac='C:\Users\Bernard\Desktop\Pierrot_Octave\Pierrot';

cd(strcat(rac,sep,'Mesures'));

restoredefaultpath() ;rehash();

addpath(strcat(rac,sep,'Programmes',sep));

path

the result seen by path is correct:(only once the path) C:\Users\Bernard\Desktop\Pierrot_Octave\Pierrot\Programmes\

C:\Program Files\00Telecharges\Octave\libexec\octave\3.2.4\site\oct\i686-pc-mingw32

With the second program (wher cd and path are with the same directory)

sep='\'; rac='C:\Users\Bernard\Desktop\Pierrot_Octave\Pierrot';

cd(strcat(rac,sep,'Programmes'));

restoredefaultpath() ;rehash();

addpath(strcat(rac,sep,'Programmes',sep));

path

Or I have a panic abort, or the result is witht twice the path

C:\Users\Bernard\Desktop\Pierrot_Octave\Pierrot\Programmes\

C:\Users\Bernard\Desktop\Pierrot_Octave\Pierrot\Programmes\

C:\Program Files\00Telecharges\Octave\libexec\octave\3.2.4\site\oct\i686-pc-mingw32

Fix:

---

As I do, it'easy to bypass the problem when it is knowbn by changing temporally the pwd..... But it take me a long time to discover the origin!
