This is not a bug.

The linker performs relaxation and during this pass the
size of several text sections are shrink. This result in
a smaller executable. There is no overlapping of code.

By disassembling we can see that the testcode and buffalo
code are there and don't overlap.

I close this as there is no bug.

Anyway, thanks for this bug report.

In the attached file (68hc11-elf target) the compilation proceeds normally. In the .text section, however, text from testcode.o begins at 0x1077 and has length 0xA6, making the next program location 0x111D. However, the linker places code from file buffalo.o at location 0x1117, 6 locations prior to where it should be and overwriting the previous code. The PROGRAM.MAP file documents this case.

The latest sources were used (release 2.1.1 I believe) built normally and without incident on Slackware 8.1 system according to build/install instructions on the web site.
