It wasn't something corrupted in the ~/.TeXmacs dir - the problem first showed when using TeXmacs on a new machine. However it also works fine for me now. Thanks. Feel free to close (not sure why I can't)

I have just tried the same texmacs --delete-cache with a recent linux build from svn rev ~4900. No problem here, it works.

Was there a reason for the --delete-cache? From the way it was fixed, it seems that something else that was corrupted in the ~/.TeXmacs dir, not the cache.

The solution was to copy my ~/.TeXmacs folder from another machine.

Not a proper solution, I admit :-(

I foolishly ran: texmacs --delete-cache
and now texmacs keeps crashing:

I could not open ecrm8@6
texmacs.bin: ./Plugins/Metafont/load_tex.cpp:329: void load_tex(string, int, int, int, tex_font_metric&, font_glyphs&): Assertion `false' failed.
