Good. I just checked and this bug seems to have disappeared sometime over the last year and a half. Closing report.

Can't reproduce on a current dev tip (e3511cec60a0). After changing/saving test_reread.m the subfunction is properly updated:

I can reproduce this on a current development tip (1f5dbfc23fc2).

I have changed the summary to reflect the true problem being with execution, rather than saving.

Sorry, just noticed that it is not the saving. Changes take effect in the 2nd execution after the saving.

So the testprocedure is: make the change to test_reread.m and save, then perform the commands from the commandline twice. You should see the change not until the second time.

If an anonymous function has been returned from a function and calls this functions subfunction, changes to the subfunction take effect only after 2nd saving.

Example:

define the following function "test_reread", containing the subfunction "subf", in a function file:

Then, from the commandline, type:

Then, in "test_reread.m", change "disp (1)" to "disp (2)", then to "disp (3)", and so on, and after each change save the function file exactly one time and repeat the commands from the commandline. You should see that the displayed number is one step behind.
