in Octave,

mat2str(logical(0))

produces an error:

error: Invalid call to mat2str.  Correct usage is:

 -- Function File: S = mat2str (X, N)
 -- Function File: S = mat2str (..., 'class')

in MATLAB, the same command produces

mat2str(logical(0))

ans =

false
