Since r5696, the generic and exams styles are exported as article.
I close this bug, but a consequent work has to be made in order to ensure the validity of produced documents.

Each LaTeX classe (minimal, letter, article, report, book) provides (or not) a set of macros usefull for the redaction of a certain content type. Imho, the default LaTeX export class (i.e. when it has not been declared in the TeXmacs document) should be the simplest[*] class (when available) providing the equivalence of the set of macro used in the TeXmacs document.

[*] By assuming minimal.cls \subset article.cls \subset report.cls \subset book.cls.

Confirmed. It is not clear how to fix it. One can argue that if the purpose is to export to LaTeX then you must choose a particular document style or not put title.

Maybe we can just change the default LaTeX export class in "article" instead of "letter"

LaTeX export (without any particular TeXmacs setup, such as choosing document classes), generates a broken document: The "letter" documentclass does not have \maketitle.
