I don't know why we should care about how many output arguments are requested from quit, so I checked in the following change:

If I try to use quit as a callback function, an error is given:
----------------------
function myfun
figure(1)
set(1,'windowbuttondownfcn','quit')
end
------------------------

If you run the function myfun and click into the figure window, the following output is given.
-------------
octave:5> myfun
octave:6> error: quit: invalid number of output arguments

octave:6>
---------------

This does not happen for other functions e.g. grid.
