Thanks, I had the same problem. It's definitely not obvious, because the -S should identify the screen. A comment in -d -m section of the man page would be helpful.

Thanks to some help on the IRC channel, I've figured out the issue was that I had to specify -p 0 (for example) when sending the command. This bug report should probably be closed as a not-a-bug. Maybe a small update to the man page about use of -X with -d -m might be useful, though. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Steps to reproduce:

1. screen -D -m -S test
2. screen -S test -X help
3. screen -r test

Expected results:

Screen command 'help' is executed within screen session and help is shown.

Actual results:

No command is executed.

Additional information:

If you reattach the screen session prior to sending commands, the commands will get executed.
