I'm closing this report as it is likely caused by oct2mat being loaded. If it is some other problem, then reopen it.

See the Octave-Forge help site for Windows, (http://wiki.octave.org/wiki.pl?OctaveForWindows) which describes the problem with oct2mat and workarounds.

Please verify that the solution works for you so this report can be closed.

This sounds a lot like the famous 'oct2mat' bug. Basically, you have to uninstall the 'oct2mat' package and then things should work.

on Windows XP e.g. the following is not displayed

plot([1 2 3 4 5 6])

unless the above command gets repeated multiple times

Before ignoring/closing this bug report: please google also "octave gnuplot hangs" and you will see that many people have the same problem on different Windows machines.
