OK, Application Support seems to be the right choice then. I keep the bug "Fixed" (but still opened) until I make an "official" release which includes the patch.

On my machine, it has similar contents and the following permissions:
drwx------+ 33 jamescone staff 1122 2 May 09:26 /Users/jamescone/Library/Application Support/
so I'm happy.

Please close the bug.

Regards,
J.

OK I patched upstream code few minutes ago. Now uses "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Liquid War 6", I think this is the right place. Meanwhile (before 0.0.9beta is out...) you can still run the game by using the --user-dir command line switch.

For example:

/path/to/liquidwar6 --user-dir=/Users/jamescone/Documents/LW6

OK thanks for the report, out of curiosity, is ~/Documents really writeable? Any other writable directory in "~/"? What about "~/Library" (I suspect this one is the best placeto use).

Sat 10 Jul 2010 07:29:30 AM UTC, original submission:

I run MacOS 10.5.8. ~/ is not writeable by users.

James-MacBook:~ jamescone$ echo ~
/Users/jamescone
James-MacBook:~ jamescone$ ls -ld ~
drwxr-xr-x 46 root wheel 1564 10 Jul 19:15 /Users/jamescone
James-MacBook:~ jamescone$

So Liquid War 6.0.0.8beta does not start, because it fails to create ~/.liquidwar6

There may be a special mac-ish way to create a configuration directory for an application, but I don't know what it is.

There are .* files in Documents, which do not show in Finder, so an alternative is to try putting the configuration directory in ~/Documents.
