I didn't test enough.
It appears that the problem lays in how urxvt handle the progress bar. The output appears without any problem in a standard xterm.

/usr/bin/wget -O - "http://ws.geonames.org/postalCodeSearchJSON?postalcode=13002

Works, output a string begining with "postalCodes":[{"...."}]
The full strings appears if -q is used

/usr/bin/wget -O - "http://ws.geonames.org/postalCodeSearchJSON?postalcode=13002&country=FR"
Nothing is displayed (except a tiny '{' in the term edge)
Adding the -q option show a clean output.

I was a bit disconcerted before understanding the absence of output. Maybe the progress-bar should attempt to avoid hiding the output when the content-length is too short.
