ss2tf (and the control package) is no longer part of Octave (you can figure this out by seeing "packages/control" in the path to the function). Bugs should be reported to package maintainer, or to octave-forge mailing list: <octave-dev@lists.sourceforge.net>

I think there is a typing error in the help file of ss2tf.

>> help ss2tf

`ss2tf' is a function from the file C:\Octave\3.2.3_gcc-4.4.0\share\octave\packages\control-1.0.11\ss2tf.m

-- Function File: [NUM, DEN] = ss2tf (A, B, C, D)
Conversion from transfer function to state-space. The state space system:
etc......

====> I think it should be opposite. "...from state-space to transfer function".
