Thanks for your bug report.

Take a look at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=565935 (Well, it's for Fedora, but most likely other distributions are affected, too) - especially Comment #11. You'll find that Ghostscript 8.71 is broken. A patch is available there.

After updating to Ghostscript 8.71, gv fails to display PDFs, complaining: "Error /undefined in copy_trailer_attrs", etc. The error seems to go away when I uncheck the "respect document structure" item in "State", but this means that I won't be able to see what pages exist anymore, etc.

Is this a known problem?
