Apparently this bug was fixed for quite some time in bazaar trunk. Please upgrade.

I think it came with Debian stretch.

how to reproduce

position the cursor at the end of the line
initrd /boot/initrd.gz

now type / and press TAB
initrd /boot/initrd.gz/

Grub resets/crashes/reboots to the BIOS
