Hello,
please excuse my bad english. I am not a native speaker.
I try to boot the following System - but I got only a freeze after the output "GRUB loading" - no grub-menu.
root@dagobert:~# fdisk -l
Platte /dev/sda: 200.0 GByte, 200049647616 Byte
255 Köpfe, 63 Sektoren/Spuren, 24321 Zylinder
Einheiten = Zylinder von 16065 × 512 = 8225280 Bytes
Disk identifier: 0x00a78728
Gerät boot. Anfang Ende Blöcke Id System
/dev/sda1 * 1 21672 174080308+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/sda2 21673 24199 20298127+ 83 Linux
/dev/sda3 24200 24321 979965 82 Linux Swap / Solaris
Platte /dev/sdb: 1500.3 GByte, 1500301910016 Byte
255 Köpfe, 63 Sektoren/Spuren, 182401 Zylinder
Einheiten = Zylinder von 16065 × 512 = 8225280 Bytes

/dev/sdb1 1 182401 1465136001 7 HPFS/NTFS
The device /dev/sdb not bootable - its only a data-HD. Both HDs are connectet to the SATA-Controller of the Mainboard (Fujitsu-Siemens D 1625).
If I disconnect the cable of the /dev/sdb from the controller it runs (WinXP on /dev/sda1 und Ubunto on /dev/sda2 are booting). But if I connect both HDs I got the freeze.
I tried the following workarounds:
1. Booting with the Windows Bootloader:
So I can start the WindowsXP - but I got the same freeze if I start linux. -> no solution
2. Connecting the /dev/sdb to an additional SATA-Controller
I bought a PCI SCSI-Controller. If I connect the /dev/sdb there - it runns.
But why?
Why freezes GRUB if two SATA-Drives are connected?
Thank you!
