I've modified the code so that it will not require macos extensions to be activated. (I need to use some Cocoa API and this in turn requires compilation of the ObjC++ files contained in src/Plugins/MacOS which now is performed also in Qt/Mac).

Cool; this works for me.

Please make --enable-macos-extensions the default,
when --enable-qt is selected under MacOS.
If this is done, then I will close this bug.

I've commited a fix for this bug (as of r3386). The fix is conditionally enabled only on Qt/Cocoa with MacOSX extensions activated. I catch the Tab-related events at the Cocoa level and dispatch them directly to the focused widget.

1) I've tried to capture Ctrl+Tab with a menu binding without sucess. Can you confirm that it works for you and provide me a test example?

2) The Carbon version does properly handle Ctrl+Tab. However to use it you need to compile 32 bit version of TeXmacs (and related libraries).

I've done some testing and as far as I can see Qt/Cocoa is deaf to Shit/Ctrl+Tab. (no event is generated at any level of the architecture).

It seems that Ctrl+Tab can be captured when binding it
to a command inside Qt. This should allow us to provide
a workaround for this annoying bug (Ctrl+Tab will become
very frequent with the generalization of structured variants).

Similarly, Shift+Tab does not work; it seems to produce
a bunch of spaces and Qt does not allow to bind it to a command.
Maybe we can recognize the bunch of spaces and produce
a workaround (Shift+Tab is frequent to circle back;
Ctrl+Shift+Tab is also used).

I filed a bug with Qt for the Ctrl+Tab problem. With Qt 4.7.0 beta 2 Carbon the Ctrl+Tab events are generated.

If Ctrl-Tab is indeed ignored, then this is quite annoying
for us, so it would be good to fill out a Qt bug report.
Indeed, it would also be good to check under Qt/Carbon and Linux.
The ordinary Tab key also seems to disfunction from time to time.
This might be related. Anyway, please fill out a Qt bug report.

I've checked with an independent test program and it seems that Cltr+Tab and Shift+Tab are ignored by the Qt event system. I've some reason to believe that this problem is related to Qt/Cocoa. I will check if Qt/Carbon gives similar problems.

This seems related to a reported Qt bug:
http://bugreports.qt.nokia.com/browse/QTBUG-8596

If it is the case I do not know how to fix it in TeXmacs.

Also, the structured variant key C-tab does not work under MacOS,
even though this shortcut does not seem to be used by MacOS
(e.g. C-left, C=right, C-up and C-down are confiscated by 'Pages';
is there some way to override this?).

More generally, the tab key fails to work at seemingly random
moments. This is annoying, because it is involved in many
shortcuts, such as "a tab" in order to produce alpha.

On seemingly random moments, certain keyboard shortcuts (most importantly, control-key based combinations) do not work,
or work incorrectly (e.g. C-w becomes A-w or M-w).
