OK, so your comment was totally misleading.

Anyway the problem is that I name files blah.lzma, blah.xz, blah.gz even if they all are compressed with lzma. Actually I don't care about file names.

Likely adding .xz and .lzma to checked files should be enough.

I've done it to every report where user was asked for the indispensable info and never responded. What actualy matters is the abilityto reach you and not your name.

grub-mkconfig doestn't care about the compression scheme used.
It only cares about the filename.
So how is it named on your system?
On Debian at least they don't have any .gz extension even though they're gzip compressed.

My initrd image is compressed using lzma (as recent kernels support gzip/bzip2 and lzma).

Unfortunately update-grub doesn't find such lzma compressed initrd images.

Not sure about bzip2 - didn't test.
