Once you remove the paranoia, this is a duplicate of several other bugs, namely bug #27202 and bug #26718 (I think there's another one too, but I can't find it).

I don't think we have an infestation problem. There is a bigger problem, namely that we have very little funding, which is the main reason why the project isn't progressing as fast as it could.

CPU Intel 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo, Ubuntu 9.04 64bit

On the website: http://www.bestofyoutube.com/ (few embedded youtube videos on one page) Gnash is using 100% cpu. Sadly it is so unstable that I will no longer be testing it at all. If Gstreamer can handle even HD videos off-line without high CPU load or crash, why these small crappy videos on a website have to crash my computer and suck its all CPU power? Will Gnash ever be usable?

Flash will never be replaced by Theora and Vorbis due to advertisements and SLO tracking (where is the tool to control them in Gnash??), so I suspect that you are following the path of W3C. I smell rats here. Its too profitable to allow you to ruin their business.
