I think e8d36bf10b784da5d7ba9a503c77e2e4688c6cda fixes the issue. The commit message mentions vertical splits, but the change should take effect even when there's no split.

I can't seem to reproduce this, neither with 4.0.3, nor with the latest dev sources, on OS X 10.5.

Granted, I'm on modern hardware, so, perhaps, this would be noticeable on a slower processor?

A user complained that scrolling text is much slower in screen than in tmux, even without splits. It was then determined that the gating factor seemed to be when the text included long (~250-char) lines.

This may only apply to stuff viewed in "less".
