Excellent idea, allowing the user to choose colors for built-in things in denemo.
It will have to wait though. I guess here in the bug tracker is the best place for it.

Perhaps a solution would be to put a checkbox in the preferences->view options that would set the barlines to light gray in Denemo; the default would be black barlines in Denemo, since it's the default in Lily.
If the denemo gray-barline box were checked, it would also produce lilypond output without barlines. You could then enter desired barlines manually which would appear dark in Denemo and be present in the lilypond output. Maybe all this should go in a special options menu for irregularly measured music.
This is just a guess, since I don't write music without time signatures and the expected barlines.

yes there is. They are not really barlines, just where denemo thinks the barlines will be. If you have "ordinary" music the barlines will be there. But if you put more notes in a measure than will fit they won't. And you can place barlines where you want instead, which is what you need for some early and some modern music.
But denemo still works in these "chunks" which correspond to measures usually.
Any suggestions for a better means of communicating or hinting at this situation are welcome.

This is based on Windows xp version 0.8.6.

A minor observation and question: Is there a rationale behind the light shade of gray used for the bar lines? Why not make them black? Visually, to me it gives a kind of washed-out effect.
