On Mac OS X systems, --restrict-file-names=unix may not be sufficient: the colon is often regarded as a directory separator, rendering it unsafe for normal use. Perhaps a "darwin" or "macosx" OS specifier, which acts as "unix" but additionally escapes the colon.
