I can hardly understand what’s going on!
When I installed Version GNU Backgammon 0.90-mingw 20090403
on XP/SP3, I made a test which was ok.
But know the same old problem occurs again.

More precisions. There are to ways of crashing.

1) In the save dialog box, I click on the file in the list window. Then a confirmation dialog box opens (file already exists …). And gnugb crashes after a positive response, sending the following error message: Glib ERROR**: gmeme.c:175 Failed to allocate 176 bytes. Aborting.
See attached image file.

2) When I simply confirm the saving by clicking the "save" button, a new instance of Visual Studio 2005 is automatically launched and says:
Exception non gérée à 0x7c921109 dans gnubg.exe : 0xC0000005: Violation d'accès lors de la lecture de l'emplacement 0x0b43342d.

NB. Now a must mention a minor interface anomaly which could very well be related to this bug. It concerns the directory path of the position file and occurs when gnugb.exe is launched by double-clicking a sgf file. If the file is modified and the save button is clicked, the directory path of the sgf file is not remembered and the file shall be saved to the /gnugb/ installation directory by default. In this case, no error occurs, because no file is replaced. I think this is what happened, when I said that the bug no longer occurred in the most recent build. But after selecting the correct directory in the save-to-file dialog box, the bug always occurs. And we have the two variants in the way of crashing which I described above.

Just installed :
Version GNU Backgammon 0.90-mingw 20090403
The described error no longer happens.
sgf files opened and modified are saved normaly.
Sorry about not checking with the last build!

Version 0.90-mingw (build Mar 4 2009)
Windows XP/SP3
Crashes when saving existing sgf file opened for modification
Visual Studio says: unhandled exception/acces violation:
Exception non gérée à 0x7c921669 dans gnubg.exe : 0xC0000005: Violation d'accès lors de la lecture de l'emplacement 0x00000000.
This error always happen, whatever the position, when saving the modified position in the original position file
