Oh, I saw that the malformed SWF messages are limited
to 10 lines for this specific case, so the fact that the
number is always the same doesn't mean there aren't other
glyph codes later..

ref: "libcore/TextField.cpp" line 1807

MALFORMED SWF: TextField: missing embedded glyph for char 65533. Make sure DisplayObject shapes for font Arial are being exported into your SWF file

^^^ may be the cause of that problem, I get a few of them.
Note though that it's always the same number (64433)

For the record, the umlauts are in the rss file, like this:

"Die Deutsche Post will ihren angek<FC>ndigten"

I can reproduce the problem with current trunk (to be 0.8.7) just running the SWF and comparing
the output between pp and gnash. Didn't 0.8.4 to confirm if it's a regression.

I can't reproduce this. As 0.8.5 is a year old, and we're about to start the release for 0.8.7, it'd be good to know if this is a problem in a newer Gnash. Alot of Text related changes have happened since 0.8.5.

any regression is blocking

http://stuff24.de/magazin.swf is reading http://stuff24.de/xml/news.rss (it doesen't matter whether it's ISO-8859-1 or UTF-8)
v0.8.5. doesn't display the headline nor the umlauts (üöä)... v0.8.4. is fine still fine.

Btw: I'm using Gnash standalone / command line on Debian Lenny with Gnome.

cheers

Same as before. Attach the file causing a problem or post a URL to it, or we can't see the problem. Umlauts and other non-ascii characters are displayed fine in many cases, so this may be a bug related to encoding or to font selection.

I'm having the same problem with german umlauts. Is that fixed in version 0.8.6. ?

I'm afraid - I can't post the affected file because it's a commercial non-public flash-animation not owned by me. I tried to generate a simple SWF with text, but all those simple versions worked with 0.8.5. I will try to find a file that reproduces the error.

Add SWF URL or attach it, please.

I forgot to add the information, that the used SWF uses strings encoded in ISO-8859-1 and the system is running on UTF-8

On the same system a gnash-0.8.4 renders german umlauts correct, but gnash-0.8.5 not.

The system is a ubuntu 8.10 (also reproduceable on an ubuntu 8.04).

- fontconfig 2.6.0
- freetype 2.3.7
