Do you have /usr/local/bin in your path ? You'd need to have "which gnash" print out that path to have it work.

The proposed command works. But to make it works on Firefox, I need to do "cd /usr/bin; sudo ln -sf /usr/local/bin/gtk-gnash".
Firefox does not seem to use the gtk-gnash built by "make;make install".

For me the bug is closed.

Thank you.

It won't work if you just download it.

There are two versions of that SWF, possibly the same file with different FlashVars, one on the front page, and another on its own page (click on the first SWF to get to the second).

The second one seems to work fine. Here is the correct invocation (online):

gnash -j 650 -k 560 -U 'http://www.lemonde.fr/europe/portfolio/2009/02/25/un-avion-s-est-ecrase-a-amsterdam_1160114_3214.html' -P 'align=' -P 'bgcolor=#F1F1E1' -P 'height=560' -P 'loop=false' -P 'menu=false' -P 'name=portfolio' -P 'pluginspage=http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer' -P 'quality=high' -P 'src=http://medias.lemonde.fr/mmpub/edt/pf_std/flash/1.0/portfolio.swf?zone=&source=http%3A%2F%2Fmedias.lemonde.fr%2Fmmpub%2Fedt%2Fpf_std%2Fxml%2F20090225%2Fportfolio_1160114.xml' -P 'type=application/x-shockwave-flash' -P 'width=650' -P 'wmode=transparent' "http://medias.lemonde.fr/mmpub/edt/pf_std/flash/1.0/portfolio.swf?zone=&source=http%3A%2F%2Fmedias.lemonde.fr%2Fmmpub%2Fedt%2Fpf_std%2Fxml%2F20090225%2Fportfolio_1160114.xml" $@

The first one stays blank until you click on one of the arrows, which I guess is a bug. But it also seems to work fine once you've clicked. I haven't compared either SWF with the Adobe player.

If you still have problems, make sure you have curl support compiled in.

To get the proper invocations of gnash yourself, set the environment variable GNASH_OPTIONS=writelauncher and look for gnash-debug-?.sh in /tmp.

I used the default gnash plug-in for Firefox to read portfolios of news http://www.lemonde.fr/ portfolios.
Firefox displays a white window with picture numbers, and go in an infinite loop, trying to load data.

I get yesterday the last trunk via bazaar, build and install gtk-gnash.
I download the file for web site,
and run :"gtk-gnash portfolio.swf".
I got a window of correct size, which displays "Connexion aux fichiers", which blink ("connecting to files").
