oh, well, it's nice to see that you are aware that the current implementation "looks/behaves messy".

I did notice that, visually, the whole "widgets popping up in cells and flickering a lot in the process" thing looked a bit crude (in my "user" eyes).

I just didn't report it because I thought I would not be very useful on providing a solution :), but I'd be delighted if one day this was solved too.

That also brings me to a corollary question: why do widgets have to "pop out" of cells when the user clicks on them? Is it for extreme space saving reasons or something like that?

I wonder about the idea of the entire sheet being a gtk listview with widgets inside it. Wouldn't that be easier /and/ cleaner? (I have no idea, personally) just curious.

You are right (of course!) but it'll take a fair bit of rework to the underlying GtkSheet implementation to make it work with a GtkComboBox. Currently, the only widgets that can be used are 1) GtkEntry or something derived from one; or 2) A container widget which contains one. That situation is in itself messy. I think that the correct approach would be for the sheet to use the GtkCellEditable interface which would permit GtkComboBox and others.

The current widget being used is GtkComboBoxEntry (aka Drop-down Combination Boxes), but since you can't enter the thing by typing directly, I think a GtkComboBox (aka Drop-down Lists [2]) should be used instead.

It looks better, and it makes it clear that the items inside it are not editable.
