Looks like it was a system config problem. ==> closed

So, is this bug report valid?

I found a lot of information about the key mapping here:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=%23255286

Also, here

http://osdir.com/ml/editors.texmacs.devel/2004-11/msg00014.html

seems that a similar problem is mentioned.

It may be that I have a faulty key mapping in my system and it looks as if it is a debian/ubuntu problem rather than TexMacs related. I will check this out when I return at work next week.

Fri 05 Dec 2008 07:00:43 PM UTC, original submission:

I installed Texmacs 1.0.7 from source on Ubuntu Hardy Heron as per website instructions. I got no errors. I installed the additional fonts as well.

However, when I start texmacs (from the terminal with texmacs&) I get:

[: 61: cygwin: unexpected operator
[: 61: cygwin: unexpected operator

in the terminal after I click anywhere on the editor. Further it works well.

Next, the Hyper-modifier key doesnt work. The F5 key (as a replacement of H-) is also not working as it should be. It is bound to the "Emphasise" content tag. To write the symbol for "pi" I need to Insert->Mathematics->Formula (or type "$") and then choose "pi" from the greek menu button.

Help -> About -> What is New
Help -> Full Manuals -> Tutorial
Help -> Full Manuals -> Compile Article/Book

are grayed out. The last one probably has a good reason.

This is the output of xmodmap:

xmodmap: up to 4 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):

shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lock
control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x6d)
mod1 Alt_L (0x40), Alt_R (0x71)
mod2 Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3 Caps_Lock (0x42)
mod4 Super_L (0x73), Super_L (0x7f), Hyper_L (0x80), Meta_L (0x9c)
mod5 Mode_switch (0x5d), ISO_Level3_Shift (0x7c)

I tried "H modifier -> Equivalent to mod#" in the preferences and it still doesnt work (if #=2 Num Lock should be Hyper- and #=3 CapsLock should be Hyper-). Also I used xmodmap to assign other keys to mod2 or mod3, (the left Windows Menu key for instance).

Thanks!
Aleksandar

P.S. Why cant I insert equations in the title? And even more, since my hyper key doesent work, I cant type greek symbols in the title as well.
