Guessing this is fixed ... it doesn't happen on my system with current svn code.

The 'no launch path' issue is now fixed.

As a sanity check, I rebuilt core with everything installing in the system domain ... and I still can't run any gui apps, so it looks like the current problem is nothing to do with install locations.

With Ink.app I get:

Exception occurred while loading model: NSTask no launch path set
Failed to load Gorm

Why is it trying to run a subtask?

The base library changes have fixed the issue Greg had with being unable to find bundles but ...

Actually, this doesn't seem to be the original problem ... when I run GWorkspace it hangs, and when I try to run it under debug, it falls over with a clearly corrupt stack.

Could we not drive the installation domain from the same place, the environment var, when configuring?

This should be fixed sooner rather than later as we now have appear to have people using Windows regularly which are waiting on this fix.

I quickly -

  • changed the configure default to GNUSTEP_LOCAL_TOOLS to match the new default

installation domain

  • made it configurable with a ./configure option

It would be nice to add the check at install time that the ./configure installation
domain location matches the one specified at install time, and to rebuild if not.

Thanks

Analyzed ... on windows we use relative paths rather than absolute ones, so that we can find the paths to various resources wherever the gnustep installation is moved to.
However ... the paths are calculated relative to the base library at configure time, so if the base library is not installed tin the assumed location within our path hierarchy, some paths are wrong.

Workarounds ...
1. install base library into the system domain and delete any copy in the local domain
2. provide a GNUstep.conf specifying the paths (overriding the hard-coded ones)

Proper solution ... allow the eventual installation domain to be specified at configure time, and have the installation process detect any conflict between the configured installation domain and the actual installation domain, and reconfigure/rebuild if necessary.

Recent changes seem to have broken some things on Windows. I am unable to start up some applications without getting exceptions complaining that it can't find DLLs which are clearly in the path.

This is a critical problem at this point.

The summary basically says it all -- my application crashes on launch at NSWorkspace.m line 634 when called by [NSWorkspace sharedWorkspace] which was called from [NSDocumentController init]

Needless to say, this is a show-stopper for me! (running on Windows XP)
