1. I have added the nocompress variable to the rc file so as to avoid this confusion as a default.

2. Perhaps an explanation of the default behaviour can be noted in the manual. I'll look into that.

PS If you are using rottlog, you should consider subscribing to the mailing list.

Please, read the documentation:
1. you can put the extension you prefer using METAVARIABLES in block definitions
2. Rot[t]Log uses two algorithms to rotate files. The one that you are wondering is not the default one. You must explicitly tell to Rot[t]Log that the logrotate-compatible rotation's method must be used.

Two issues (on gNewSense 2.1):

1. Rotated file does not have correct extension: .gz
2. Existing logs foo.log.0 and foo.log.1 are untouched, but new log is number foo.log.4. Shouldn't they rotate in order, foo.log.1 becoming .2, .0 becoming .1, and .log becoming .0 uncompressed?
