Hi.
(Fedora 10 x86 yesterday's edition, firefox 3.0.4, Gnash 0.8.3)
I was checking out the progress on the cygnal streaming server today and sadly, not much work has been done since this April. On the other hand, I did install the Gnash player for firefox, via the .xpi file.
After that, flash apps would no longer load, leaving me with a grey box. I ran firefox in the console and found it was missing a library:
/home/ike/.mozilla/firefox/615e24ra.default/extensions/{2b70f2b1-fc72-4734-bb81-4eb2a7713e49}/plugins/gtk-gnash: error while loading shared libraries: libboost_thread-gcc42-mt-1_34_1.so.1.34.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I checked /usr/lib, and I did contain the following entries:
libboost_thread-mt.so
libboost_thread-mt.so.1.34.1
libboost_thread-mt.so.3
.. so I made a sylink from libboost_thread-mt.so.1.34.1 to libboost_thread-gcc42-mt-1_34_1.so.1.34.1, and then the plugin worked.
You should probably remove the "-gcc42-mt-1_34_1" from your dependency's name, to make the player more portable across distros.
Since I'm here, a couple more problems arose:
- libcurs: /home/ike/.mozilla/firefox/615e24ra.default/extensions/{2b70f2b1-fc72-4734-bb81-4eb2a7713e49}/plugins/gtk-gnash: /usr/lib/libcurl.so.4: no version information available (required by /home/ike/.mozilla/firefox/615e24ra.default/extensions/{2b70f2b1-fc72-4734-bb81-4eb2a7713e49}/plugins/gtk-gnash)
- something about not finding the gnash icon;
- sound output is jittery, compared to that of the flash player. I'll try to provide a sample.
- clicking the .xpi opened the standard download dialog, asking me what to do with the file. I opted for "Open", and then chose "/usr/bin/firefox" as the application. That installed the plugin in the same window, and then restarted firefox.
If you need more info on my part, please write up.
Keep up the good work,
-i
