About the friendliness of the remote DISPLAY X error I filed
bug #24772.
I'll close this, since the submitter won't be notified

On an unrelated note: when MIT-SHM is active, and a user
tries to run Gnash from a remote host, onto a local X server,
the error message obtained is not user friendly:

The program 'lt-gtk-gnash' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)'.
(Details: serial 234 error_code 10 request_code 146 minor_code 1)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Turning to blocker.
After all, since a patch is provider, why not be a blocker ? :)

When using gtk-gnash from the firefox plugin on youtube.com,
I received an W-window system error (NetBSD 4.0) of BadAccess
while requesting a shared memory attach.
This is due to the sahred memory being removed by gtk-gnash before
the Xserver could complete the attach. I fixed this by adding
an XSync before the remove operation, see patch.
I could not figure out how to use the savannah web browser to
see the latest source, so this could already be fixed.
