PSPPIRE now accepts both batch and interactive syntax, automatically detecting which is which. I've just now checked that this in fact works.

Peter Galderisi <pgalderisi@ucsd.edu> also reported this bug, for the following syntax:

I could see having a checkbox in the edit window menus to select between batch and interactive syntax.

This is interesting.

Psppire uses batch mode, because the syntax window isn't interactive in the sense that the pspp terminal is. In psppire, you type in the syntax, then select Run->All/Selection/To End ...
which executes the code. In the terminal, the code is automatically executed whenever the end of a command is encountered.

As I understand it, the reason for interactive mode, is that end of command can be ambiguous in batch mode.

So to me, it makes more sense to have batch mode in psppire, or else, change the user interface to make it truly interactive.

I think that I would like to implement an automatic guesser to figure out which syntax form is used in a syntax file automatically. I don't think it would be too hard.

Barring that, interactive mode is probably a better default for PSPPIRE.

Default PSPPire works in batch syntax mode. SPSS works default in interactive mode when using the interactive interface.

Is it possible to change the default behaviour to interactive mode?

Workaround:
start you syntax file with
INSERT 'test.sps'
SYNTAX=INTERACTIVE.
