Closing due to lack of activity. Please check out nano 2.1.6 which was released yesterday and feel free to reopen this bug should it be needed.

Hi Karl,

nano actually already does this. You don't need to specify -Y (if you are currently doing so) if your.nanorc file is set up to include a .nanorc which includes the proper file name regex.

from sh.nanorc:
syntax "sh" "\.sh$"

This means filenames which end in .sh should automatically use the sh highlighting syntax.

If you're not getting automatic syntax highlighting that does sound like a bug; if that's the case please send over your .nanorc files and we'll have a looksee.

Have the developers considered incorporating the ability to dynamically include the corresponding .nanorc file based on whether the user is editing a Python .py (/usr/share/nano/python.nanorc) or Bash *.sh (/usr/share/nano/sh.nanorc) script, etc?
