Changed the keyboard plane handling code in 1.0.1.15. This should no longer cause problems with AltGr.

If I were you, I would try to change the keysym of the key you want to act as AltGr to be Mode_Switch. If that does not work, then I am out of ideas. You may try the following xmodmap script (feel free to experiment...)

remove mod3 = Mode_switch
keysym ISO_Level3_Shift = Mode_switch
add mod3 = Mode_switch

If that is indeed a problem related to a new Xlib release, I would eventually fix it when the new version hits Debian/Testing.

In the meantime, Joris and I are very busy working on very belated tasks and we cannot investigate this problem. X related problems are extremely time consuming to debug.

I do not really understand how the AltGr key is handled.

It seems that the key which is associated the keysym "Mode_Switch" also gets associated to the modifier "0x2000" which would be something like "Mod11".

So please make sure that your intended "alt-gr" key is mapped to the Mode_Switch keysym and that it is not associate any other modifier (you can use xev for that).

Otherwise, I see nothing more I can do.

In last resort you can always define keyboard shortcuts in TeXmacs to more easily input chars for the AltGr keyplane.

From daniele:

xmodmap: up to 2 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):

shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lock Caps_Lock (0x42)
control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x6d)
mod1 Alt_L (0x40)
mod2 Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4 Super_L (0x73), Super_R (0x74)
mod5 ISO_Level3_Shift (0x71)

I cannot help much right now, since I have not yet examined the changes Joris made in TeXmacs 1.0.1.1.

It would probably be helpful if you can provide us with your file ~/.TeXmacs/system/preferences.scm and with the output of the command "xmodmap" on your system.

On related problem which has been reported is that with Apple keyboards, TeXmacs can confuse AltGr and Alt. You may try to fix it by changing your xmodmap configuration and the modifier mappings of TeXmas (Edit->Preferences->Keyboard).
