TeXmacs 1.0.4 still produces ugly national fonts, when exporting to pdf using TrueType fonts. I use polish language, and all polish national letters seems to be rendered with different font type than others. I attach example screenshot file: polish_letters_ar5.gif - the output of AcrobatReader5 of pdf produced from polish_letters.tm file.

Exporting a TeXmacs document to Postscript produces a ps file using Type3 fonts?. When turning the file into a pdf file this has two disadvantages:

1. The pdf file is processed incorrectly by xpdf;
2. Acroread renders it, but fonts do not look as good as they do when Type1 fonts are used (e.g. by generating a similar document via LaTeX/dvipdfm).

Thanks to Marciano Siniscalchi.

From the mailing list

Joris: When I wrote the converter three years ago, I just compiled a very short LaTeX document and looked at the generated document. The TeXmacs->Postscript converter mimicks the way LaTeX does it.

Now that pdf has become more standard, it would be worth it to write a direct TeXmacs->pdf converter. I do not have time at the moment to do this, but it should be too hard for a volunteer to write such a program: you may modify the file src/Window/PsDevice/printer.gen.cc in such a way that it generates pdf output instead of postscript output (the code in printer.gen.cc should be rather self-explanary, but you may of course ask me for additional help). If you can make this work, I will rename the file as src/Window/PsDevice/pdf.gen.cc and make the necessary other modifications. At a second stage, we might add special support for hyperlinks and other typical pdf stuff
